About Noshi Gift Paper<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

For gift boxes in sizes M and L, we offer inner noshi (uchi-noshi) only, at 100 yen (tax included) per sheet. You can also specify the top inscription (omotegaki) to suit the occasion, as well as a name inscription such as your name or company name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Types of Mizuhiki and Their Meanings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Mizuhiki (decorative paper cords) can be tied in a variety of ways. Some knots are suitable for return gifts celebrating a wedding (kekkon uchiiwai), while others are not, so we introduce them here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Musubikiri (tight knot)
Mizuhiki tied so that the ends of the knot point upward is called musubikiri. It is a firm way of tying that does not come undone easily. It is used not only for celebratory occasions such as wedding return gifts, but also for gifts celebrating recovery from illness, get-well gifts, and condolence occasions.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Awaji-musubi (Awabi-musubi)
This knot is a musubikiri tied so that both ends form loops. Because the shape of the loops resembles an abalone (awabi), it is called awabi-musubi or awaji-musubi. It carries the same meaning as musubikiri, but because pulling both ends makes the knot even tighter, it is used for celebrations that should happen only once.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ume-musubi (plum blossom knot)
It is called ume-musubi because the knot looks like a plum (ume) blossom. Because the plum blossom endures the winter and blooms in spring, the knot carries the meaning of improving one’s fortune. As the plum is also one of the auspicious trio of “pine, bamboo and plum” (sh\u014d-chiku-bai), ume-musubi is used for a wide range of celebrations.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ch\u014d-musubi (bow knot)
The bow knot is also commonly used for mizuhiki. A bow knot can be untied by pulling both ends and tied again. Because of this characteristic, it is suited to celebrations that are “happy no matter how many times they are repeated,” such as gifts for starting school, gifts for the birth of a child, and wedding anniversaries.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
